Places to See in Los Angeles

A great list of things to do and places to see when you visit Los Angeles.

  1. Drive to see the Hollywood sign
  2. Go back in time and visit the La Brea Tar Pits at the Page Museum
  3. Check out the Santa Monica Pier (over 100 years old), and don’t miss the aquarium
  4. There are a great many fun things to do with kids in LA
  5. Take a day trip, and find the many things to do on Catalina Island (read our post about it)
  6. Tour the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley
  7. Visit the beach!
  8. The Getty Villa (near Malabu) is dedicated to the arts and cultures of Greece, Rome, and Eturia
  9. The Getty Center is a spectacular museum filled with Van Gogh, Monet, and many other artists
  10. Go shopping at The Grove (one of the most popular outdoor malls)
  11. The Bradbury Building is an architectural icon built in 1893 in downtown Los Angeles (listed as one of the Great Buildings)
  12. See the Levitated Mass, a giant 340-ton granite rock, at the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art)
  13. Check out Grauman’s Chinese Theatre where famous movie actors leave their footprints in concrete
  14. Check out Griffith Observatory, a planetarium near Mount Hollywood
  15. Experience the culture along the Miracle Mile of Wilshire Boulevard
  16. Go to a film festival
  17. Tour Universal Studios and see the backlot of the worlds largest working movie studio!
  18. Find some treasures at the Crafted Market
  19. Spend a day or more at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure (easily 1 day in each)
  20. See a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall (this building was featured in the movie Get Smart)
  21. The Grand Central Market is a huge international farmers market open daily
  22. Visit The Museum of Tolerance started by Simon Wiesenthal
  23. The Mijares Mexican Restaurant has been a staple of Pasadena since 1920
  24. See an event at the Hollywood Bowl
  25. Spend some evening time at Universal City Walk (an outdoor mall with lots of big television screens)
  26. People watch at the Venice Beach Boardwalk
  27. Get some superb coffee at Intelligentsia: Venice Coffeebar, Silver Lake Coffeebar, or Pasadena Cafe
  28. Go to Los Angeles’ famous Farmers Market at 3rd & Fairfax
  29. The Hollywood Wax Museum has everyone from Elvis Presley to Angelina Jolie
  30. Visit the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens then take a merry-go-round ride next door
  31. Check out Marina del Rey, one of the best marina’s and great shopping at Fisherman’s Village
  32. Ride the rollercoaster at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier
  33. Ride even more rollercoasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain (100 rides) or Hurricane Harbor
  34. Check out the awesome Aquarium of the Pacific
  35. Go snorkeling—the Palos Verdes area is excellent
  36. Have breakfast at the Original Pantry Cafe—open 24/7 since 1924
  37. Try some of the amazing food in Los Angeles
